  • Winding Down
First, let me apologize for being out this Friday.  My oldest son, Michael, is graduating from Western Carolina University - YEA!
A BIG shout out to Ms. Pyle, Charlotte's mom and Ms. Hamilton, Jahidi's mom, for being chaperones for the field trip to Raleigh this past Wednesday.  Thank you so much!!
We have only six more weeks.  We are continuing our EOG review.  I can see some real improvement over the last couple of weeks.  Reading to answer EOG-style questions is a skill in itself.  We are not only reviewing reading skills, but how to analyze questions and to use specific strategies to answer them.  You should be proud of how diligently and intensively all students are working.  I am very proud of them.
Don't forget the fourth grade overnight field trip to Betsy Jeff Penn May 9th and 10th and the fifth grade trip to Fort Caswell May 16th and 17th.

  • Week of April 24th
On Monday we will begin our countdown to the EOG.  This year we will be using Harry Potter to make things more interesting.  Students are divided into Hogwarts Houses.  Houses will be competing against each other for a weekly house cup.  The winning house will get a special surprise.  All houses that earn enough points will participate in a weekly celebration.  Our first celebration will be butter beer and dirt-cakes.  Students will earn points for their house by making good grades on review assignments, keeping a positive attitude, being a leader and putting forth their best effort.  We hope to make these last few weeks fun, memorable and full of learning.

  • News and Reminders
Congratulations to The Book Jackets for coming in third in our city EBOB competition.  Both teams did an excellent job and I am very proud of them!
Next week is Spring Break (YEA!!).  Enjoy your time off, but please read some.
When we return, fourth grade will continue reading Extra Credit and fifth grade will continue with Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library.  We will also begin Spring Training - EOG review.  In science fourth grade will begin discussing health and nutrition.  Right now they have been learning about cells-the building blocks of life.  Fifth grade will continue with forces and motion.  Fifth grade will also be reviewing all science concepts for the Science EOG.
Get lots of rest, have lots of fun, play outside and be ready to work when we come back.
