Happy Thanksgiving!!! This week is a two day week.  I sincerely hope you have a restful holiday full of family, love and happiness.  When we return from the holiday we have about three and half weeks before the Christmas holiday.  Fifth grade will quickly review adding and subtracting decimals and take a test.  The next topic is adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.  This can be a tough concept, especially if students don't know their multiplication facts fluently.  In science we will continue with weather focusing on front and other weather patterns.  Fourth grade will continue with equivalent fractions and move to comparing fractions.  In science we will continue with energy focusing on light energy and moving to magnetic energy.
There's no homework this week, but we'll be back on schedule next week.

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend.  We have a full week this week.  Fifth grade will be adding and subtracting decimals.  In science we will continue with weather.  We will continue with air pressure and wind.  Fourth grade  will be taking a test on multi-step word problems and will begin a unit on equivalent fractions.  Fractions are a difficult concept and it is very important students know their multiplication and division facts fluently.  In science we will move from thermal energy to sound energy.
Next week students are out of school Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Students will not get their Friday folders that week.

Let the holiday season begin!  Don't forget Friday is a holiday-Veteran's Day.  There is no school.
This week fifth grade will continue division with 2-digit divisors.  In science we will continue learning all about weather.  Students will take a test on clouds this week, probably Tuesday.  We will begin learning how air pressure affects weather and we will actually make barometers.  Students will need a small glass jar.  A small jelly jar is the perfect size.  It is not required, so if you are not comfortable sending a glass jar, please don't.
Fourth grade will begin multi-step problem solving with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  In science we will continue with energy, more specifically, thermal energy.

Picture retakes are tomorrow and picture money for fall pictures is due Tuesday.

Mrs. Menius and I will have an awards assembly Thursday at 1:30 in our classrooms.  Our school leaders decided this was the best option for making sure students' hard work is recognized.  We hope you can join us.

A shout out to Julie L. for being voted as our fifth grade student council representative.  Our top prodigy point earners for last week were Riley, Victor W., Robert, Caleb, Victoria and Aryanna.  Keep up the good work.
