Week of October 17th

posted Oct 16, 2016, 7:07 PM by Ella Frazier
This is the eighth week of the quarter.  Fourth grade will continue to read the novel, Love Ruby Lavender.  We will strive to finish the book this week.  They will also be reading Encantado: Pink Dolphin by Sy Montgomery. The skill we are focused on this week is referring to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.  Students will be answering text dependent questions to practice this skill.  In science we will continue learn about the phases of the moon.  Students should be keeping a moon journal last week and this week.

Fifth grade will continue their novel studies as well.  Student groups are reading different books - The Adventures of Homer P. Figg, Woods Runner, Ungifted or Savvy. They will also be reading about the Titanic this week.  Students will be focused on quoting accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.  They will be using Canvas to discuss text dependent questions.  Our focus in science will be the water cycle.  This is an extension of our study of thermal energy.
